Button is excellent and is classed as a GA 2A in A.H. Albert's reference volume. An officer stands with his right hand holding a slanting drawn sword all displayed on a plain field. Back side excellent with shank strong and intact. Backmark rmdc of "W.G. MINTZER / PHILA 1861". Letters crudely cast and show wear. Difficult to read. RV10. This fine artifact is an unexcavated example of a bordered two-piece Confederate 'local' brass button as worn on the uniforms of Louisiana troops. Button exhibits the Louisiana State Seal that shows the standing Pelican with its head to its right on a fine, thin-lined field. A thin border runs around the edge. Retains traces of original gold gilt on the face and backside. Button has no pushes or dents but does suffer from a slight dark oxidation blemish over its lower body and the chicks. Classed as a LA8C in A. H. Albert's reference volume. The face of the circular, convex, 22-mm, brass device exhibits the pelican feeding her young while the backside is blank. Retains its strong, tight shank. RV25. This Louisiana button is extremely difficult to find. It would certainly make a wonderful addition to any Civil War display or to a Louisiana focused collection.

This button is known with the backmark of practically every button maker and outfitter of the period, as well as many quality marks. In 1854, a general service button was specified to all enlisted men to simplify button procurement. The eagle device is similar to earlier buttons, but no letters are on the shield. The preponderance of Union Army buttons found in Civil War camps and battlefields are of this type. All of these buttons are Civil War period non-dug buttons and they have shanks attached. They are of various backmarks.

The General Staff had an executive role in the Federal Army. After the reorganization of 1836, officers adopted a distinctive "staff" type button. The button shows an eagle with tail, wings, and neck extended from the body on a lined field. The eagle's head faces toward the right, with wing tips pointing upward. In one talon, the raptor holds three to six arrows, while he grips an olive branch with the other. A shield is present at the center and a ring of 21 to 30 stars surrounds the eagle. All buttons have attached shanks and are assorted various backmarks.

In the 1880 most army units had buttons with a distinctive design. In 1821 officials decided to use a button showing an eagle over a shield with a simple letter I on the shield. Enlisted men used the design until 1854 when it was replaced by the general service button without the letter I. Infantry officers continued to use the old style during the Civil War. All buttons are non-dug Civil War era, and have the shank attached. They are of various backmarks.

This excellent condition Confederate artifact is a rare, non-excavated, high-grade, imported brass button as worn on many high ranking Southern officer's uniforms. The coat-size button is of two-piece construction with an edge bordered brass face in choice condition. Classed as a 'CS 36 / RV 60' in A.H. Albert's reference volume, this circular, 24-mm brass specimen exhibits a finely cast, droop-winged eagle device standing on a pedestal centered on a lined field. The eagle's head faces to his left and circling the eagle are eleven, distinct five-point stars in a crescent shape. Details are sharp but the eagle does exhibit just slight wear at the high points. Gold gilded face is free of any blemishes. Reverse is sharply backmarked with "H T & B / MANCHESTER". Shank is strong and very tight. Slight area of light oxidation over the H T & B lettering. This seldom seen, non-dug specimen of an original, Confederate General Staff officer's button such superb condition would highlight any Confederate officer's display or Civil War button collection.
