The 5th New York Artillery Regimental Flag, reconstructed. Present are the original embroidered elements of the flag, including the Seal of the State of New York which includes the images of Liberty and Justice along with the American eagle spreading its wings above a world globe. Liberty’s left foot treads on a crown and Justice is blindfolded and holds a sword in one hand and a pair of scales in the other. The word “EXCELSIOR” is embroidered within, and a banner ribbon below reads: “PRESENTED BY THE CITY OF NEW YORK TO THE 5TH REG. OF NEW YORK STATE ART.” Also present are four stars from the original banner, as well as the gold bullion fringe which once surrounded three sides of this flag. Most of the original color in the embroidery sections has faded away. The recovered embroidery has been expertly re-sewn to a new backing of cream-colored fabric and the ensemble has been set into an attractive gold- gilded frame. There is the possibility (although unsubstantiated) that this is from a Mexican War period flag, not the later Civil War version. The overall outer dimensions of this framed flag are: 56” in length X 43 1/2” in height X 2 ½” in depth. For being a well conserved reconstruction it has a most striking appearance and would look fabulous mounted on your wall in the collection room or office.

PLEASE NOTE:  DUE TO THE SIZE OF THIS FRAMED ARTIFACT WITH ITS GLASS PANEL, SPECIAL SHIPPING & HANDLING IS REQUIRED.
