Hat is made of pressed black felt and is in good condition.

The top right side of the crown has a slit approx. 1.75 inches long while the left side just below the crown has a vertical slit that meas. approx. 2.00 inches long. Neither one of these is very noticeable. Other than that the exterior of the hat is in good condition. The edge of the brim has two parallel lines of stitching. Around the base of the crown is an original cavalry hat cord while at center front of the crown is a pair of stamped brass crossed sabers.

The interior of the hat lacks the sweatband and the label in the crown is present but worn and split. The label has an eagle over a cannon, flags and a shield and reads “US ARMY” over the top and “EXTRA MANUFACTURE” across the bottom.
