11 x 16” Nationalist Chinese Flag made in Kojido Prison Camp by  Chinese communist POW who refused to return to the mainland and was repatriated with 25,000 other POWs  to the Taiwanese National  Republic of China, transported by US Navy LSTs, arriving Keelung Harbor, January 27, 1954.

The red flag with its blue field and white and blue sun, is faded and exhibits one small spot of staining. Else VG. Accompanied by newspaper clipping containing pictures of POWS debarking Navy LSTs in Keelung. Plus a snapshot of the unnamed flag-making POW, in US issue boots and clothing, smiling at the camera while standing with small flag in his right hand—with an inked arrow pointing at himself, inscribed: “ME”.

Fascinating Korean War artifact, inviting possible further research.   [JP]
