Invented by Captain Robert Parker Parrott, a West Point graduate and an inventor of military ordnance. Superintendent of the West Point Foundry in Cold Spring, NY. The Parrott gun was patented in 1861. This Model 1861 had a 2.9 inch land diameter with a right hand twist with three broad flat lands and grooves.

The markings on a 2.9” Parrott rifle through 1862 and on this gun as follows:

Upper muzzle “No. 53” – Foundry number

Lower muzzle “10 Pdr. 2.9” – size of tube

Left trunnion “1861” – year of manufacture

Right trunnion “R.P.P.” – Robert Parker Parrott

Right trunnion “W.P.F.” – West Point foundry

Tube top over trunnion “US” – Federal mark of reception

 

All markings crisp and sharp. Rifling in excellent condition as is the tube. On a full scale Jeff Stauffer reproduction carriage. Garage kept last 25+ years.
