Stamped brass plaque with profile relief of President Abraham Lincoln on the front. The silhouette of Mr. Lincoln is the same as on the current US penny.  Plaque meas. approx. 7.25 x 9.50.  Upper left-hand corner has some dents but otherwise the plaque is in good condition. Across the bottom it is engraved “ABRAHAM LINCOLN 1809-1865” Maker marked and dated along the edge “COPYWRITE 1907 BY V. D. BRENNER.” Back of the plaque is hollow with screw holes in each corner.

Victor David Brenner was born in Lithuania and immigrated to the United States in 1890. He settled in the New York City area, worked during the day and attended art classes at Cooper Union at night. In the years that followed Brenner became one of the country’s premiere medallists. Theodore Roosevelt saw a copy of Brenner’s Lincoln plaque and chose him to design the artwork on the Lincoln penny. To date his design is believed to be the longest running coin design in US mint history.
