HOTCHKISS SHELL RECOVERED IN THE AREA OF CITY POINT / JAMES RIVER

$275.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M23385

This unfired Hotchkiss shell is still encased in dried mud from the James River. The mud is present at both the top and bottom however, the area of the sabot has been cleaned so it can be viewed. The same was done with the nose to expose the remains of the brass Hotchkiss fuse plug. The flame grooves on the sabot are also clearly visible.

This shell was recovered close to the James River (as evidenced by the mud), at the site of the Union supply base at City Point, Virginia.
