This fine artifact from the Civil War period is an original, unopened packet of five Federal artillery paper time fuses that are still contained within the original beige or light tan colored paper wrap. The rectangular paper packet measures 3” long x 2” wide x 5/8” high and displays an excellent stamping “Frankford Arsenal /. 1863 / 8 SECOND FUZES.” Packet, in absolutely original mint condition, exhibits no splits, tears or rips on the wrapping. Retains the five small cotton tabs or strips protruding from the closed, glued paper packet. This artifact is a very fine example of an integral component of a Federal artilleryman’s Civil War weapons system.
