BUFF ARTILLERY THUMBSTALL

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 381-09

This item is a nice conditioned white buff leather thumb stall as used by Civil War artillerymen to plug the vent hole on the breech of a cannon.

As the gun was fired and the barrel became hot the artilleryman working the guns breech would slip his thumb into this leather pad and then tie it in place around his wrist.

The leather on this piece is in good to excellent condition with surface dirt and wear from use. Both wrist ties are present and complete.
