11-INCH SPHERICAL SHELL

Non-excavated Dahlgren cannon ball. This shell still retains traces of original orange paint. No fuse, but fuse hole looks to be threaded for the typical naval fuse. Below the fuse hole are the inspector’s initials, “PC” and “MCM”. These are believed to be Pierce Crosby and Matthias C. Marvin who were ordnance inspectors at Norfolk, VA.  [jet]
