ARTILLERY GIMLET FOR 10-INCH GUN – WATERVLIET ARSENAL

$60.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 490-928

The "gimlet" has a screw on the end and was intended to be used to remove broken pieces of friction primers from the vent. It could also serve as a priming wire to poke a hole in the powder bag. This is in excellent condition. Stamped just below the loop is, “WATERVLIET  US  10 R  M  95” indicating it was manufactured at Watervliet Arsenal for a 10-inch gun.  The loop measures 2.25 inches in diameter and the overall length is 18 inches.  The pick end is twisted with a sharpened edge as you would find on a drill bit.  This implement retains the majority of the original arsenal applied blue finish without any corrosion or pitting.
