This is a Civil War artillery gimlet which was used to remove broken friction primers or other obstructions from the vent hole of a cannon tube.
Iron shaft attaches to iron handle by sliding through the center. Handle is a little loose. Threads are good. Measures 4 ½” long. Handle measures 2” wide. Light surface rust is present on shaft. [SM]
