RARE CS/US 12 POUND MOUNTAIN HOWITZER CANISTER ROUND FOR THE US MODEL 1841 12 POUNDER MOUNTAIN HOWITZER

$3,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M24070

Seldom seen and for sale (rarity 10 in the book Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War by Thomas Dickey and Peter George). Canister round measures 9” tall x 4 ¾” in diameter. Wood sabot is in excellent condition; one minor chip that is hardly noticeable along top edge. The tin cylinder body has all the crimped edges intact, with no major dents in body. Small section (3/8” x ¼”) of the tin missing, otherwise a very nice example of a rare canister round.

The Model 1841 Mountain Howitzer – one of the most versatile weapons during the American Civil War – was considered the “work horse” in the engagements it participated in due to its light weight and size.  [ws]
