In this group are the remains of several sections of Selma Arsenal artillery shipping crates found by a workman during construction of Interstate 75 around Atlanta. A large Confederate ammo dump was uncovered by workmen. Several complete ammo crates were discovered with 18, 24 and 32 lb. Confederate spherical shells.

The wood as found by the workman is fragile and dry. Two sections have some letters visible from the arsenal stencils. Several other sections have nail holes and remains of a tin strap outline remains. Included in the group are lids, side panels and bottoms. All wood is very solid.

These sections were once part of the DuBose Family Collection before the collection was donated to the Atlanta History Center. In 2015we sold an almost complete Selma Arsenal shipping crate from this collection.

Very nice untouched CS 32 lb. spherical shell with the original wooden fuse adapter intact. Outline of the sabot straps visible. Very light surface rust and pitting. Nice untouched shell.   [ws]
