This is an excavated canister round for the 12-pdr. Smoothbore Napoleon cannon. This is relatively complete with about half of the outer tin having rotted away. Top and bottom plates remain as well as most of the iron balls. A previous collector added a reproduction wood sabot to recreate the original appearance as much as possible. Spray coated at one time. Iron is stable, but loose dirt and other material remain within the piece. Canister balls are fused together.
A very rare item to see as an excavated specimen. A must for any artillery collection. [jet]
