This is a nice unissued artillery sponge head for a 3-inch rifle. The exterior is in excellent condition and is covered with 1/2-inch long wool knap. One end is sewn closed. The open end has a 1 ½” long “cuff” which was used to attach the sponge head to the rammer. Flat, this piece measures approximately 5” wide x 10” long. All material is strong, all stitching is strong. This is a very nice unissued piece for any artillery collector. [jet]
