1864 DATED ALLEGANY ARSENAL ARTILLERY FUSE POUCH

$500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1055-01

This is a very nicely preserved Civil War artillery fuse pouch that saw some postwar use and had a plate affixed to the flap from 13th Regiment of the National Guard of New York. The brown leather is in excellent shape, with the latch tab and both belt loops in place on the upper rear, showing excellent color and finish. The inner flap is excellent as well and is crisply marked, “ALLEGANY / ARSENAL / 1864.”

These boxes were an essential accouterment for the crew of an artillery piece. Carried on a narrow leather belt with a simple roller buckle, they were worn by the gunner and held the lanyard and other tools necessary to fire the piece. They show up frequently period photos of field artillery crews and are a key piece in an artillery collection. We have left the badge affixed to the front as it came to us.  [sr]
