The leather is in decent condition but shows use, wear and some soiling overall.  The latch tab was stitched to the underside of the flap.  This tab is broken at the hole with the lower half gone.  The outer flap is clearly stamped “U.S.” / WATERVLIET / ARSENAL”. The interior flap leather is in very good condition and much cleaner and is complete with both ears. The body of the box and the two belt loops on the back show moderate wear and use. The bottom edge at the rear shows heavy wear and a small split which has been reinforced with a thin piece of leather on the inside of the box. Stitching is complete and unbroken. The bottom of the box retains a brass finial. Belt loops are stitched only, no rivets.

A great example of a used Civil War artilleryman’s fuse pouch.  [jet]
