Used during the Civil War, the sight is a small, flattish steel peg designed to protrude from the front of a cannon’s muzzle swell. It was used to provide additional alignment for aiming the gun. Manufactured of steel, with threaded bottom to be screwed in and out. Marked “12 PDR LT. GUN” on side.  [ws]
