This is the type of artillery round fired from smoothbore howitzers.  Iron cannonball has a moderately pitted surface with a few deeper pits. Ball has not been coated.

This shell was fired and there are only remains of the Bormann fuse remaining; the center being burnt out. This shell has been drilled, the powder washed out, and is completely safe.   [jet]
