This heavy-duty cylindrical implement is a Civil War iron grease bucket carried as part the equipment of an artillery gun crew. This grease bucket measures approximately 7 ½” in diameter and stands 8” high. A metal cover or lid is secured to the top of the bucket with four rivets. Lid has a 3½” diameter opening that is capped with a pivoting metal cover that has a flattened closure tab. A 10” long heavy-duty link chain serves as the bucket handle.
