Booklet runs 128 pages and meas. approx. 2.75 x 4.25. The book is paper bound. The front cover reads “THE SOLDIER’S FRIEND-US SANITARY COMMISSION.” Title page has title and printing information with the date 1865. First two pages have some period pencil inscriptions. One of the pages has a woman’s name across the top. The interior is fairly readable. The book contains a section on soldier’s benefits, a devotional section and a patriotic section. The back cover has a US shield over a fascine with “US SANITARY COMMISSION.”

The condition of the book is fair to good. The interior is good but the covers show serious wear. The lower right front corner is missing and both the front and back covers show the effects of rubbing. The book is tightly bound and can be read. Also, tucked between the pages is a small brown bird feather with white spots and a piece of paper lace.
