Regulation morning reports folder, with adhesive cover stamp—“Company Morning Reports/Twelve Months/ Company E.” Measuring 14.5 x 11”.  Interior heading lists company captain [“John J. Phillips”] and regimental colonel [“Geo. H. Brown”].  Each month is allotted four pages of columned entries, and lined two pages for daily remarks.  Front cover is attached but fragile. Exhibits darkening around outer edges, as do the first few pages. Also chipping, and medium soiling front and rear. Interior pages lightly yellowed, but inked entries are crisp, clear and entirely legible. Else good.

The 12th Rhode Island was a nine month Union regiment—mustered in on 10/18/18662 and mustered out on 7/29/1863. In the eastern it participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg and the infamous January 1863 “Mud March” before being transferred to the West, concluding its enlistment in the Department of the Ohio. During service it lost 12 men killed and mortally wounded and 47 to disease for a total of 59.  These morning report entries begin at Camp Stevens, on 10/16/1862 with company enrollment of 3 officers, 86 enlisted, and conclude with June 1863 entries, 3 officers and 89 enlisted.

Solid collectible. Fine piece for Rhode Island regimental aficionados.
