Confederate Rifles and Muskets: Infantry Small Arms Manufactured in the Southern Confederacy 1861 - 1865 by John M. Murphy, M.D., published in 1996 by Graphic Publishers. Hard cover with original dust jacket; 760 pages plus an index. Cover measures approximately 11 ¼ by 9 inches. Black and white photographs. Condition like new.
This volume is the culmination of many years of exhaustive research into long-forgotten records, as well as examination of the "long" longarms that were produced in the South for Confederate forces during the Civil War. Many of these arms are herein correctly identified for the first time.
The time in which Confederate arms were used, the crisis that necessitated their making, and the uses to which they were put have long intrigued arms collectors and researchers. "Confederate Rifles & Muskets" puts those arms in their proper perspective as valuable historic and cultural relics of a brave people, and of the romantic era in which they fought a valiant but vain struggle.
