Hardcover with dustjacket. 248 pp. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1975. Heavily illustrated with b&w photos and maps.
A Civil War classic! In this, his first book, Frassanito pioneers the study of Civil War photography and the use of photos as historical documents. He shows us that each photo is loaded with information the same as any written record. Filled with scenes of the Gettysburg battlefield taken immediately after the battle, each photo is analyzed and accompanied by a modern view.
Overall in very good, clean condition. Minor age yellowing to dustjacket and pages. A few minor tears to edges of dustjacket. Binding strong. Previous owner’s bookplate inside front cover, as well as a taped in Errata page with a few text corrections.
