Volume is titled “REVISED REGULATIONS FOR THE ARMY 1861 WITH AN APPENDIX.” The book is bound in a blue cloth with an embossed spread-winged eagle with sunburst and stars at center surrounded by geometric designs. This decoration is on both front and back covers. Spine has title in worn gold with a stronger eagle at bottom. Covers and spine are worn at edges and faded throughout. Cloth of both covers have light surface dirt. Binding is good.
Interior runs 594 pages with index and is a good readable copy. Manual was printed in 1863 in Philadelphia. Some pages have light staining but nothing major. Pages have discolored some from age. All pages present.
First page is embossed with a period bookseller’s stamp that reads “D. L. GUERNSEY / DEALER IN / BOOKS, STATIONERY, PERIODICALS & FANCY GOODS / CONCORD, N.H.” Also stamped with ink on the first two pages is “ALVIN G. YEATON.”
Alvin G. Yeaton was born in New Hampshire about 1852. His father was John G. Yeaton who served in Berdan’s Sharpshooters.
John G. Yeaton was 36 years old and living in Pembroke, New Hampshire when he enlisted as a Corporal in Company E, 1st US Sharpshooters. He was discharged for disability at Washington, D. C. on January 20, 1862.
