Volume is nicely bound in leather which shows age and only minor wear. The brown surface of the leather is mostly clean and very smooth. Corners and edges of the covers show minor wear from rubbing. Spine has square of black leather outlined in gold with the title stamped in gold at center. Spine shows heavier wear with light surface crazing over the title.

Volume meas. approx. 6.25 x 9.25 inches and is titled “THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF MODERN SURGERY” by Robert Druitt. The book runs approx. 576 pages with the index with 31 pages of advertisements. Page edges have some light scuffing. Binding is very good. Interior is mostly clean with only some minor foxing. Text is clear and readable and there are numerous line drawings.

Inside front cover is an old paper label for the Henry County Historical Society from 1924. Opposite page has a period ink inscription that reads “R. E. SCHOOLFIELD.”

Dr. Robert E. Schoolfield was born in Virginia in 1817. The 1850 US Census finds him living in Dublin, Wayne County, Indiana.  [ad]
