Volume is bound in brown leather that has worn at corners and edges. Boards show some chips at crease of spine. Ribbed spine has red leather panel near top with title embossed in gold. There are also some light surface creases on spine from the volume being opened and closed. Front and back covers have gold tooled edging. Binding is tight.
Interior has light surface dirt. End boards are marbled as are the page edges. Across from title page is woodcut illustration of Lancaster. Title page reads “HISTORY OF LANCASTER COUNTY TO WHICH IS PREFEIXED A BRIEF SKETCH OF THE EARLY HISTORY OF PENNSYLVANIA” by I. Daniel Rupp. Printed in Lancaster in 1844.
Volume meas. 5.25 x 8.00 inches and runs 531 pages with fold-out chart at back. First page has a period ink inscription that reads “ELIAS RO??EY HIS BOOK.” Below that in pencil is “BOT AT SALE BY E. BILLINGFELD MARCH 23RD /67. BOT OF SALE???” and below this is another owner’s name and 1948. [ad]
