Typical Civil War period soldier’s pocket testament. Meas. approx. 3.00 x 4.50 inches. Book is hardcover with typical brown cloth exterior. Covers have an impressed geometric decoration. Covers show wear at corners with some scattered age and wear spots. Spine lacks brown cloth.
Inside front cover has a wonderful two color label with flowing US flag at top over a riband that reads “TO THE DEFENDERS OF THEIR COUNTRY!” This is followed by a title that reads “PRESENTED BY THE NEW YORK BIBLE SOCIETY JANUARY 1863.” This is followed by a number of Bible verses.
Title page is dated 1862. Interior is complete and very readable. Some light discoloration to pages due to age. Page edges still retain gold gilt. [AD]
