Charlotte E. McKay entered into Union army nursing in Frederick, MD, in 1862, and served in numerous Army of the Potomac hospitals, including the Cavalry Corps Hospital in City Point, VA. and as well as hospital at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. A conscientious and hardworking nurse, she lost a younger brother, a lieutenant of the 17th Maine, at Chancellorsville, and was herself was awarded a Kearney Cross while at the City Point hospital. A significant nursing memoir, accompanied by documentation.  [jp]
