Owner signatures inscribed on upper title page: [above, in ink] “Lieut Alexander Wilson/ Co. A. 118^th Get. PV”; [below, in pencil] “Lieut. James Brown/ Co. A. 118^th Regt. P.V.” Rear eps pencil inscription: “Isaac Wilson/ 1026 Rodman road/ $4 Paid Feb. 19^th.” Exhibits light to medium wear and rubbing the extremities, with one small cover scuff. Else good, with tight spine & page signatures.

Alexander Wilson was a Philadelphia resident who enlisted 8/15/1862 as a First Lieutenant, commissioned into “A” Co., 118^th PA Infantry. He resigned his commission 5/25/1863. James Brown was a Philadelphia resident who enlisted as a corporal, mustering into Co. “D”, 118^th PA Infantry. He was promoted to 2^nd Lieutenant and transferred to Co. “A”, 118^th PA Infantry, 3/1/1863. He was discharged 1/5/1864. The 118^th PA Infantry was organized at Philadelphia May 15-30, 1862. It was assigned to the 5^th Corps, Army, and, beginning with 1862 Battle of Antietam on, participated in all the major campaigns and battles of the Army of the Potomac through Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House, 4/9/1865. During service the unit lost 141 men killed and mortally wounded and 112 by disease for a total of 253. Solidly ID’D by two 118^th Pennsylvania Lieutenants. Excellent collectible. Accompanied by a brief amount of research material.     [JP]
