Item Code: B5086

The full title of this volume is “MANUAL FOR ENGINEER TROOPS” by Captain J. C. Duane and was published in New York in 1863.

Volume meas. approx. 5.25 x 7.50 inches and runs 275 pages with index. The text is divided into five parts as follows:

  1. Ponton Drill
  2. Rules For Conducting A Siege
  3. School Of The Sap
  4. Military Mining
  5. Construction Of Batteries

The interior of the book is tightly bound and clean. There are numerous illustrations throughout.

The book appears to have been rebound using the original boards and reinforcing the spine with newer material. The remains of the old spine has been glued to the new one so some of the gold embossed title and engineer castle is visible. Front and back boards are much worn. Gilt decoration on the front cover is almost rubbed off.

Blank page across from the title page has two names in period ink, one looks to be “ALFREDO SAYERS” and the other “A. S. CASBILLE.” A quick attempt at research did not turn up any additional information.  [jp]
