Cloth covered book was written by Dr. George P. Carter and was published in Boston by Crosby & Nichols in 1862. Title page reads, “THE DRUMMER BOY, A STORY OF THE WAR (IN VERSE) FOR THE YOUNG FOLKS AT HOME, BY COUSIN JOHN. WITH ILLUSTRATIONS FROM ORIGINAL DESIGNS”. The story is told in prose of a young boy who joins the Union army. Various references to battles are included.

Text contains 48 pages. Book measures 5” x 6”. Red cloth cover shows wear at the corners, edges and spine. Pages have yellowed with age. Binding is tight with no loose or torn pages. Title of book is in gold gilt on the cover, which has retained its brightness.  [sm]
