Pocket-sized song book is written in German and features a marbled paper cover. Measures 3” x 5”. Text contains 60 pages. Paper has yellowed with age. Cover is loose as well as pages in center, but none are missing. Edges show some chipping and some corners have bent. Back cover has small torn area.
The Lochamer-Liederbuch is an extensive collection of German songs at the transition from the late Middle Ages to the Renaissance. It dates from the mid-15th century and is regarded as one of the most important surviving collections of music from fifteenth-century Germany.
This is a nice piece of early Gettysburg and German history. [sm]
