LOT OF 9 WARTIME ISSUES OF THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY

$65.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 668-146

This lot consists of the Atlantic Monthly magazine from January through September of 1865. All nine of the magazines are full length and very readable. On one or two issues the paper cover has come loose and they have some light surface dirt and wear from age and storage. None of the pages are loose.

All but one of the issues has some war related content. The April issue is the only exception.

The war related content is as follows:

The January issue has a long article titled “LEAVES FROM AN OFFICER’S JOURNAL.”

February has two articles “ROGER BROOKE TANEY” who gave us the Dred Scott decision and “A FORTNIGHT WITH THE SANITARY” which is about life with the Sanitary Commission.

March has an article titled “AT ANDERSONVILLE” as well as one about “EDWARD EVERETT” who spoke at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery.

May has a piece called “OUR BATTLE LAUREATE.”

The June issue has three articles “LATE SCENES IN RICHMOND,” “JOHN BROWN’S RAID” and “THE PLACE OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN IN HISTORY.”

The July issue has two articles of interest “THE CHICAGO CONSPIRACY” and “ASSASSINATION.”

August has two articles. A rather long piece called “MY SECOND CAPTURE” and “RECONSTRUCTION AND NEGRO SUFFERAGE.”

And lastly, September has two pieces of interest “CAPTURE OF JEFF DAVIS” and “OUR FUTURE MILITIA SYSTEM.”

Of course each issue has other articles and stories that are not war related and may be of interest depending on one’s personal taste.  [ad]
