This tapered teardrop-shaped glass container is an early 1800s tavern-style, vintage blown wine or spirit glass decanter. The classic and pleasing artifact is often referred to as a three-ring bulbous decanter. Heavy and stout, it measures 8¼” high and has a 3¾” wide clear base and was used in early America taverns during the Federal period. Decanter is in excellent condition, measures 4¾” across at the widest area, and sports a 2¼” diameter x ¼” thick pour flange. Original glass stopper is not included. The fine-looking, blown specimen has thick glass and exhibits three, smooth, separate rings applied as re-enforcing collars at the upper neck just below the plate-type pour spout. Clear glass body is free of any cracks, chips or repairs. Body has just very few minor slight scratches on surface. No maker markings. Decanter has a polished, concave pontil. A fine glass piece of Americana at a great price.
