Fruit jar produced by Whitall, Tatum & Company of Millville, New Jersey. This jar was produced in various sizes, this being a 48 ounce size. Jar stands 8 ¼” tall; with yoke included it is 9 ¼” tall. Diameter of base is 4”. Has “WHITALL’S PATENT JUNE 18TH 1861” in raised letters on the front. Back side reads, “MILLVILLE ATMOSPHERIC FRUIT JAR”. Aqua in color. Closure for this style of fruit jar is a glass lid with Whitall’s patent info, secured by an iron yoke. Yoke shows some rust. Minor chip along edge of lid, otherwise excellent! [ws/ld]
