Button depicts the state seal of Massachusetts, an arm holding a sword,  "MASSACHUSETTS  VOLUNTEER MILITIA", intended for officers of Massachusetts units.   Backmark: "R & W. ROBINSON / (dot) (star) (dot) (star) (dot) MAKERS (dot) (star) (dot) (star) (dot) / ATTLEBOROUGH / (star) MASS. (star)" dm, solid ring separating inner and outer inscription, ca 1840's.  Three part officer staff button, coat size. Nondug button, gilded, stand up shank.
