This excellent condition Confederate artifact is a rare, non-excavated, high-grade, imported brass button as worn on many high ranking Southern officer's uniforms. The coat-size button is of two-piece construction with an edge bordered brass face in choice condition.

Classed as a 'CS 36 / RV 60' in A.H. Albert's reference volume, this circular, 24-mm brass specimen exhibits a finely cast, droop-winged eagle device standing on a pedestal centered on a lined field. The eagle's head faces to his left and circling the eagle are eleven, distinct five-point stars in a crescent shape. Details are sharp but the eagle does exhibit just slight wear at the high points. Gold gilded face is free of any blemishes.

Reverse is sharply backmarked with "H T & B / MANCHESTER". Shank is strong and very tight. Slight area of light oxidation over the H T & B lettering. This seldom seen, non-dug specimen of an original, Confederate General Staff officer's button such superb condition would highlight any Confederate officer's display or Civil War button collection.
