Circa 1830's - 1840's, one piece convex, coat size button.  Depicts script "N L" on lined background.  The National Lancers was organized in 1837 at Boston.  This is the earliest button for the unit, which served in the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry during the Civil War with a distinguished record. BM:  "ROBINSONS / (star) EXTRA RICH (star)" rm between two raised rings, fat rounded border.  Nice gilt patina; shank present & straight.  Albert's MS73, Tice's MS258A1.
