MARYLAND STATE SEAL BUTTON

$350.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 127-1912

This is a wonderful non-dug example of a three-piece brass button as worn on Maryland State soldiers’ uniforms.  Examples of this button are present on one of General R. E. Lee’s uniforms.  Coat-size, this staff button is of three-piece construction with a fine outer ring border.  Button is excellent. The circular, high convex, 23 mm brass device exhibits a seal that depicts a shield inscribed with the quartered arms of the Calvert and Crossland families crowned by an eagle.   The state arms device is at the center with “MARYLAND” below and the motto “CRESCITE ET MULTIPLICIMINI” on a pennant, all on a lined field.   Back side excellent with shank strong and intact.  Sharp backmark of “WATERBURY BUTTON CO. * EXTRA*”.  Tice # MD200B1.  Considered a Confederate button, this State of Maryland staff uniform makes an excellent addition to any Civil War button display or Maryland-focused collection.  [jet]
