Here is a seldom encountered Engineer’s medium-sized coat button. Manufactured by Scovills around 1849 solely for the tenth company of the famed 7^th New York State Militia. The tenth company being the engineers of this elite unit. Face has typical engineer’s castle device on lined field with plain border. Two-piece brass button with perfect shank.  Backmark “SCOVILLS & CO. / WATERBURY” in stippled channel. Very good specimen.  References: Tice NY224; Alberts NY40.    [jet]
