Three-piece button depicts the state seal of Pennsylvania with two horses over a coat of arms with symbolism of agriculture and commerce. Intended for officers of Pennsylvania militia. Backmark: “HORSTMANN'S / NY & PHI” with inner rings of dots, outer ring is obscured by rim. Probably manufactured by Steele & Johnson, circa 1860. Small size (14mm) for hat or cuffs. [jet]
