Produced by Scovill circa 1860, this three piece coat size button intended for pre-war Maryland Militia staff officers.  Button depicts state seal of Maryland: a shield with a fisherman, farmer, and eagle. BM:  "EXTRA / * QUALITY * " dm small letters between two rings of dots.  Very good condition, nice bright patina.  Minor wear to gilt.  Shank present & straight.  Albert's MD11, Tice's MD200A4.
