In Tice this button is listed as NJ230A1 and in Albert it is listed as NJ13.
The face has the initials “NJRC” on a ribbon at the center of a lined field. Above the ribbon is a horse’s head while below it is a plow. The face is in good condition with no dents.
Reverse has a good but slightly bent shank and a depressed mark between two lines of dots which reads “SCHUYLER H & G. NEW YORK.” Button size is 22mm.
These buttons were thought to be post-war but according to page 368 of Warren Tice’s book “UNIFORM BUTTONS OF THE UNITED STATES 1776-1865” a cuff sized example marked “EXTRA QUALITY” was dug in the wartime camp of the 3rd New Jersey Cavalry.
