An example of a three piece staff type State of Maine coat size button (22mm).  The obverse of this button shows the Maine coat arms with the motto “DIRIGO” above and “MAINE” below on a lined field, as well as a star located at the top of the motto ribbon. The reverse shows the manufacture’s name of “SCOVILL MFG. CO. WATERBURY” in small lettering, enclosed between two circles. The shank is in a straight and gold gilt is present on the obverse side. A nice specimen of a War period button.
