In excellent, original condition, this Civil War paper currency specimen is referred to as a $50.00 Confederate Treasury Note, printed by Hoyer & Ludwig, Richmond, VA. Criswell-listed as a “Type 8” showing a portrait of George Washington in the center of the paper as the major vignette. Three circular ‘50’ medallions at the upper corners and the lower right. Seated figure “Tellus” is at the lower left corner. Single-sided, printed bill measures 7¼” x 3¼”. Face is printed in black ink. Printed date is July 25, 1861. Edges all crisp and clean, no damage. Paper exhibits no surface grime. Backside plain. Bill numbered 43262 in red ink. Series ‘B.’ One of some 123,500 T-8 notes printed. Very fine original $50.00 Confederate treasury note.
