This is an average quality, high volume $10 Confederate note printed by Blanton Duncan in 1862 and into 1863. It was the last note bearing the September 2, 1861 date to be printed, continuing right into 1863. The center features a vignette portraying “General Francis Marion’s Sweet Potato Dinner”. This was used by the Bank of the State of South Carolina in 1853, and again in 1861. At right is Minerva, the Goddess of War. To the left is a vignette of R. M. T. Hunter, the Confederate Secretary of State. This note is receivable in payment for all dues except export dues and fundable in Confederate States stock bearing 8% interest six months after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States. This type comes on average quality plain paper. Fourth Series. Serial number 4937 in red ink. Old horizontal fold through center, with two pinholes.  [jet]
