Bond features an image of a landscape scene on the top left, and is numbered 186. Note declares, “$500 SIX PERXCENT NON TAXABLE CERTIFICATE. By Authority of the 14th Section of an Act of Congress approved 17th February 1864. It is hereby certified that there is due from The Confederate States of America and payable two years after the ratification of a treaty of peace with the United States, unto or assigns, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS, with interest at the rate of Six Per Cent per annum from the day of______ 186_  inclusive payable the first day of January and July in each year at the Treasury in Richmond or at the Depository in ______. This Certificate is transferable to only by special endorsement executed in the mode endorsed heron and the Principal and Intershare exempt from taxation. Richmond 186_”.  Left side of bond, which is folded back, reads, “No. $500, Issued, Int from 186_”. Reverse has six printed redemption certificates.

Bond is in very good condition and all ink inscriptions are readable. Some light wrinkling and fold marks are present. Right edge has light chipping and one small tear at the top.
