Loan certificate features a scene of a train with a steamboat on a river in the background, and is numbered 831. Note declares, “Confederate States of America LOAN, Authorized by the Act of Congress CSA of August 19, 1861. On the first day of July, 1868, The Confederate States of America will pay to the bearer of this Bond at the Seat of Government or such place of Deposit as may be appointed by the Secretary of the Treasury the sum of One Thousand Dollars with interest thereon from this date payable at the same places, semi annually at the rate of eight per cent per annum on surrender of the annexed Warrants, or Coupons. This debt is authorized by an act of Congress approved August 19, 1861 entitled, “An act to Authorize the issue of treasury notes and to provide a War tax for their redemption.” In Witness Whereof, the Register of the Treasury, in pursurance of the said Act of Congress, hath hereunto set his hand abd affixed the seal of the Treasury at Richmond, this 31 day of Mar. 1862.” It is then signed by the Register of the Treasury.

Bottom of note originally had eight printed redemption coupons, but one has been cut off. They were to be redeemed up through July 1, 1868.

Bond is in very good condition and all ink inscriptions are readable. Some light wrinkling and fold marks are present. Lower left edge has a small tear. There are a few slight chips.
